In January 2007, a Bart Baldwin walked into 803 Labs, Inc. looking to have prints made for a photo album. After several minutes, describing to the clerk his ideas, he was introduced to Tony Wiggins. Thus began a relationship that has lasted through 5 Extreme Makeover Home Edition projects & 6 families.
Bart Baldwin had become involved behind the EMHE scenes working for Sunbelt Rentals, one of the companies suppling heavy equipment for EMHE projects. Previous participation in another project showed Bart there was a need for the families to have a record of volunteers and highlights of events that were not always seen in the final cut of the version of the show. He was granted permission by the show producers access to all aspects of the production. Hence the album idea was formed.
In order to accomplish the final album, thousands of photos had to be taken, sorted through, a custom designed layout created, printing the pages and assembling the album - all in a matter of days. The goal was to complete the album for the family when they returned for "reveal day". It was an extreme undertaking for both men but they were determined to succeed.
The album is an 80 page compilation of the history. It chronicles the history of the Wilson Family's house from the day of the door knock. It covers destruction of the house, pouring the foundation and erection of the walls to the skeleton to completion. The faces of the many volunteers who make this project happen are featured throughout the layout.
The families are presented with the album the day of the reveal. It gives them a concrete memory to show friends and family the process that they may not otherwise have seen. It has been its own reward for all the hard work to present the families with this one-of-a-kind memory.
